Rose McGowan’s suspension from Twitter demonstrates just how dismal the platform is at managing abuse. McGowan was suspended following her commentary on the Harvey Weinstein allegations. It appears that the organization’s algorithms automatically suspended the actor, but the fact that she was suspended as she was denouncing sexual violence against women is not a great look for Twitter. Especially when it’s common for women on the platform to report threats of rape, murder, and other personal violence only to be told by Twitter that this type of speech does not violate its community standards. What?
