The end of the Blackberry era!
A Waterloo, Ontario-based company has finally pulled the plug on its legacy BlackBerry smartphones and handheld devices. The software powering these old phones will stop working today which means they won’t be reliable for data connections or phone calls any more!
The world’s most popular smart phone was once a sought-after accessory for celebrities and other power brokers. At its peak, there were hundreds of millions in operation around the globe; but by 2016 few could still be found — down from an earlier high point where half a billion device have been sold over five years. The company fell victim to market changes as their customers changed or left them altogether (a stark contrast when compared against Apple).
The company says that as of now, any BlackBerry-made phones and tablets — including once familiar names like the Classic or Pearl— will no longer be able to do their designed tasks. “While some functions may still work after this date … they won’t do so reliably” said the company.
